This week we learned a lot about teamwork, even if that was not the main goal of the lessons. I learned that no matter what you've done, or not done, you can still contribute to a project in many ways. I learned that I can contribute a common voice to a paper, even if I failed to do adequate research. True teamwork is using the resources you are given and playing to different peoples strengths.
A lesson more directly related to literature would be explicating a poem. Although we were technically taught how to do this last week, I am a person who learns by doing. Due to my learning style I understood this lesson much better the second time we practiced it. Reading and analyzing the poem "Cross," this week not only sharpened my skills on doing such tasks, but also taught me a great deal about the power of specif word choice, tone, and voice. The voice of this poem shows you what time the speaker lived in even if a date was never actually stated. It also shows the way the speaker was raised and by whom. The authors word choice shows emotion and feeling beyond just the dictionary definition of the words.
In short, I learned about feeling. Both in writing and in my own life. I learned skills that will not only help me in the context of literature, but in life as a whole.
