"K" sounds rattle your eardrums with their percussive nature, while repeating "S's" trip up your tongue with their slithering trails of air. The words we choose to place onto paper have more impact than we realize. As a reader we have been taught to analyze the meaning behind the words that we see, but very rarely do we stop to consider syllabic stress and the feel of the word as it trips off of our tongues. Sounds can have just as much meaning, if not more in some cases, than the definitions of the words in question. This is something that I will continue to consider, not only as a reader, but as a writer as well.
I have also learned that it is harder than I would like to admit for me to write something about myself that is not poetry. I like to say that my poetry is a small piece of my soul, and in many cases it is, but it is also very easy to hide behind the beautiful, carefully chosen words. It is easy to accept a compliment on my work, when it is a shield. I focus more on the art aspect than the story it tells. So, I guess this is a challenge from me, for me, "try to tell a better story."
