I am no barbie doll. I am far from perfect. I am a little goth, I am a bit harsh, and I am a lot different from what society wants me to be. I am thankful for the support system that I have that reminds me that all of that is okay. Tragically, the subject of Barbie Doll, did not have this same luxury. She was objectified to the point of death. She was ridiculed so much that she decided that death would be a better option than life. That is a feeling that I am far too familiar with.
So my perspective on dolls has changed greatly this week. They are hollow on the inside, molded plastic made to be perfect and aesthetically pleasing, nothing more. That is what I feel a lot of people do in writing. They do not let their personality seep in, they follow a formula that they think will lead to the perfect paper. Their voice is the same as every other formulaic paper they write. This makes group papers very difficult because I try to let my poetic style show, at least a little bit, in everything I write. Brings a little bit of a different perspective to the term "paper doll."
