How small we really are. Our "big conflicts," so minimal in the world of Science Fiction. "Peace," "Service," "Universal Well Being," this is what man often dreams of. Yet, it is only that, a dream. Never believe someone offering something that seems to good to be true, especially for free. We are constantly suspicious of our fellow man, why would we be so quick to judge the character of outsiders?
Small robots. A true, blue flay on the wall. How many spy movies have you seen where they have tiny robots are modeled after animals do the spying for us? We have built robots who can think make decisions on their own. We build robots who can see and recognize things in their path without the help of a human controller. Teenagers are learning how to build and design robots to complete simple tasks, but what happens when those kids grow up? What happens when the task in no longer that simple? The answer is playing out at this very moment. I admire people who are brave enough to face this world alone. I am not one of them. My imagination is too wild and my paranoia is far too real. The mind feeds on the silence and the lonely. In the same way, these creatures found a solitary woman in a solitary place to take advantage of. They found a being who no one would hear call for help. It is truly the small things that will take us. Do not put weight on somethings brute strength, for it is games of the mind that will do you in. So we are the aliens. We have always known that curiosity killed the cat. Our curiosity comes with a price, and it always will. Exploration is dangerous. Whether it be exploring the vast reaches of space or the depths of the darkest ocean. This short clip shows us what could happen if we further our exploration. Is knowledge worth it the risk? This piece is Science Fiction because it offers us a glimpse into a possible future. Probable? Maybe not, but it provides an answer to a "What if?". What if there is a planet not unlike our own? What if Life on other planets does exist? What if? That is what makes this a work of Science Fiction. The writer took a question or a scenario that could happen and gave it an answer and an outcome. In this work humans found other life, other huge life forms, that ultimately lead to the demise of the crew. However, this is only one ending. Therefor, the genera of science Fiction goes on. |
