What is a text? If you had asked me this question yesterday my answer would have been much different. I now see that a text is not bound by words. A text is anything that conveys meaning or provokes specific thought. In the same way my idea of real world tragedy has been shifted. I was sceptical that tragedy in the real world could have a happy ending, or maybe just too jaded to see it. Now I see that tragedy has a beautiful way of bring people together and reminding us that we have many things to be thankful for. Tragedy shows us the brighter side of darkness.
This text has made it much easier to relate literary tragedy to real world tragedy. Although tragedy in literature is often seen and depicted a as royal that is not what makes it tragedy. The tragic parts come in the forms of loss, defeat, and failure. These are not things that only affect those who dwell in royal homes, but everyone. every man, woman, and child is vulnerable to tragedy, these texts make this very clear.
