A man wastes away and spends his entire adult life wanting nothing more than to be of the law, but is denied entrance. He is told time and time again that he cannot pass through the gate. Being verbally denied access, he never actually attempts to enter. He stays there for years, the gatekeeper being the only one he speaks too. When the man finally reaches the end of his life the gatekeeper tells him, "No one else could ever be admitted here, since this gate was made only for you. I am now going to shut it."
The gate was made only for him, but he never actually tried to pass through it. All the man ever wanted was to be of the law. He wanted to follow the law and so be in the law. He headed the gatekeepers warnings and so never entered the gate that only he could have passed through. He never could find the courage to deify and question what he was told. Those who never speak up will never get the answers they are looking for. All he had to do was try, but he never did.
