Are We in Control of Our Own Decisions?

No, not really. Our brains have tricked us into thinking that we make decisions, but actually, most of our decisions are made for us. If they are not made by our subconscious then they are made by the makers of the material.  We are often under the illusion that we can make choices for ourselves. In reality our brains choose for us whatever decision is easiest or is suggested. The suggestion is designed to influence the viewer's brain into choosing the desired option.

This text was not directly about tragedy, but it was easy to see how it relates. We have seen that most tragedies are caused by a party trying to change fate. This Ted Talk shows us that we don't even really have control over our own decisions. simple things like deciding what to eat are basically predetermined for us. The power of suggestion is great in the modern day and always has been. A person was told a prophecy and through all their efforts to avoid it coming true they fulfill it. Just as we try so hard to be individuals and think for ourselves and are often outsmarted by our own brains.
